Infrastructure Upgrades

The Unity Games 2025 serve as a powerful catalyst for sustainable development, leaving a lasting legacy of upgraded infrastructure across Papua New Guinea's Southern Highlands Province. Strategic improvements in educational facilities, healthcare, transport, security, and community infrastructure will not only ensure a successful Games but also deliver enduring benefits for residents long after the closing ceremonies.

Educational Facility Upgrades

Our education infrastructure upgrades are designed to significantly improve local schooling conditions, focusing on the creation of safer, healthier, and more effective learning environments:

    • New and Refurbished Classrooms
Construction and refurbishment of multiple classrooms and dormitories, designed initially for Games participants’ accommodation, will convert seamlessly into modern learning spaces post-Games. These classrooms will be structurally reinforced, fitted with reliable lighting, ventilation, and improved furnishings.

    • Enhanced Sanitation and Ablution Facilities
Establishment of modern ablution blocks with proper septic systems, hygienic toilets, showers, and laundry facilities. Each upgraded school site will receive clean and reliable water supply systems, drastically improving sanitary conditions and student welfare.

  • Installation of robust electrical systems and power connections, including reliable generator setups and alternative energy solutions such as solar systems, ensuring consistent electricity and lighting in schools.

These enhancements will transform education delivery, creating environments conducive to academic success and overall student well-being, ultimately benefiting generations to come.

Healthcare & Medical Infrastructure

To ensure health and safety during the Games and improve ongoing healthcare access in the region, significant medical infrastructure will be established:

  • Deployment of fully equipped mobile medical clinics strategically located near major event venues and accommodation areas. Staffed with qualified medical personnel, these clinics will deliver immediate onsite emergency medical services during the Games and remain as valuable community assets thereafter.

  • Comprehensive refurbishment of existing accommodation facilities to temporarily house healthcare and security personnel during the Games. Post-event, these improved accommodations will revert to healthcare use, providing suitable housing for medical staff, thus supporting staff retention and healthcare service quality improvements.

These targeted investments in healthcare capacity will bolster emergency medical response capabilities and enhance the overall quality of medical services available to residents well beyond 2025.

Transport & Road Connectivity

Critical improvements in transportation infrastructure will ensure efficient and safe transit for athletes, officials, spectators, and residents alike:

    • Extensive rehabilitation and resurfacing of key roads and bridges, including structural reinforcements and upgraded drainage systems. Priority roads connecting major towns and Games venues will benefit from improved paving, wider lanes, clear signage, and enhanced pedestrian safety measures.

  • By enhancing these transportation networks, local communities will experience greater economic opportunities, reduced travel times, safer journeys, and improved access to markets, healthcare, and educational services.

Security Infrastructure

Recognizing the importance of robust security measures, significant investments are being made to strengthen community safety and emergency preparedness:

  • Comprehensive refurbishment and structural upgrades to the provincial police headquarters. Enhancements include mold remediation, electrical and plumbing overhauls, improved working conditions, and secure facilities that support effective law enforcement operations.

  • Development of a secure, dedicated vehicle staging area with enhanced perimeter security, lighting, and onsite maintenance capabilities, improving the efficiency and readiness of police operations during and after the Games.

These upgrades aim to reinforce public safety, foster community confidence, and strengthen overall provincial security capabilities.

Community & Sporting Facilities

Investments in community and sporting facilities aim to uplift local communities and foster an enduring culture of participation and unity:

  • Refurbishment and modernization of key sporting venues such as Oiyarep Stadium and Tente (Muruk) Stadium. Post-Games, these venues will serve as focal points for future community sports events, cultural gatherings, and other large-scale activities.

  • Renovations and expansions at various community facilities to support ongoing cultural, educational, and recreational activities, ensuring sustainable use and community engagement well beyond the Unity Games.

Through these comprehensive infrastructure improvements, the Unity Games 2025 will provide long-lasting benefits, driving positive social and economic change across Southern Highlands Province and beyond, truly embodying the spirit of unity, development, and enduring legacy.
